Kira Powell’s “Caught In The Mix” is an autobiographical one-woman show about Kira, a mixed black and Latina woman, who grew up believing she was white. Kira takes us on a journey with her through her life as she struggles to accept her true identity.
Kira’s vulnerability, truth, and humor carries us through the topics of racism, anti-blackness, white favoritism, colorism, and what it’s like for a person of color to be raised in a household and society that idolizes whiteness. We follow her through her identity struggles into a life of self love and self worth.

Time and life changed us all and Kira’s story is a brilliant, shining contemplation of that. She fills her story with deep soul searching, a lot of humour, complex reasoning and reflection and, ultimately, a joyful sense of gratitude.
Kira had unleashed an often quiet elephant in the room, the idea of white skin being superior – this gift of whiteness existing on high levels in our country and around the world, simmering still.
Caught In The Mix was awarded two Hollywood Fringe Festival Awards! A “Best of Broadwater” Award and a “Soaring Solo Social Impact Award.” The Social Impact Award is awarded to the show that “displays excellence in Solo Theatre while possessing a message that makes a deeply needed, positive, and transformative social impact.”
Kira will be performing “Caught In The Mix” at the BFF aka The BINGE Fringe Festival of Free Theatre - the fifth annual Santa Monica Fringe Festival, which features artists, companies and performances by Santa Monica and Los Angeles based artists.
