Kira Powell
Actor & Writer/Director
Kira Powell is a multi-hyphenate actor-director-writer based in Los Angeles. She holds a Master’s Degree in Directing from the prestigious American Film Institute. She was the recipient of a DGA Jury Award for outstanding directing for her AFI Thesis film, Best Eyes, starring Sage Wynters and Jackie Cruz (Orange Is The New Black). Her horror short, The Good Mother, premiered at the 2023 Screamfest Horror Film Festival. In 2021, her one woman show, Caught In The Mix, exploring biracial Black-Latinx identity, garnered many awards at the Hollywood Fringe Festival including the Soaring Solo Social Impact award, awarded to the show that displays excellence in solo theater while possessing a message that makes a transformative social impact. She was selected to perform in major theater festivals including Off-Broadway’s United Solo Fest.
As an actress, Kira can be seen in the independent feature film, The Endless, by Marvel’s Daredevil: Born Again directors Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead, where she received acclaim for her role as the eccentric artist “Lizzy.” She has over a decade of experience as a SAG-AFTRA actor appearing in dozens of national and international commercials, and performing across theater stages in LA.
As a writer-director, Kira’s work focuses on themes of identity, the immigrant experience, and exploring the complexities of the human condition.
Kira is currently in development on several projects, including her feature film directorial debut based on her award-winning AFI short film, Best Eyes. Her feature script was in second round consideration for the Sundance Development Track, and is currently a finalist for the Sundance Collab Residency.
